ans :- whenever we work on a computer we provide it with certain set of characters and some information . this set of characters like alphabets, digit or special characters that represent facts or figures is know as Data . when this data is processed by the processing unit i.e. CPU it is know as information . 

2. how is memory classified into different types? 

ans :- there are two types of memory 

1) primary memory :- RAM ,  ROM , PROM, EEPROM, EPROM , EPROM 

2) secondary memory :- HARD DISK , MEMORY CARD, CD/DVD 

3) what is a hard disk ?

ans :- A hard disk is a circular disk coated with magnetic material and usually sealed in a hard disk drive inside the computer . the data access speed is very fast and data stored on a hard disk can be access much more quickly than data storage capacity (upto 1 terabyte ).

4) differentiate between Ram and Rom .

ans :- RAM :- Ram is called as Random Access Memory because any data in ram can be accessed just as fast as any other data .

ROM :- Rom is stands for read only memory . this memory is used as the computer begins to bbot up . small programs are often stored in rom chip on hardware devices and they contain instructions the computer can use in performing some of the most basic operations required to operate hardware devices . rom cannot be easily or quickly overwritten or modified . 

5) what do you mean by secondary memory ?

ans :- secondary memory is also called secondary storage .the device that actually holds the data is knows as the storage medium. It is not directly accessible by the CPU. 

COMPUTER usually uses its input/output channels to access secondary storage and transfers that desired data in primary storage. 

Hard disk, floppy disk, compact disc (CD) , digital versatile disc (DVD) and pen drive are some examples of secondary storage devices.
